Smith and Cross Rum Review 3

I tried some apple, mango, banana, and apricot there, all of which are tempered with a bit of oak and leather to add depth and complexity. Smith and Cross is an excellent Jamaican rum that is making waves in the bar world. Bottled at 57%, navy blue strength and intense flavor, it is good for cocktails but also has a depth that rewards those who enjoy sipping rum.

Great if that’s the way you want to experience things, but it can be a bit too much for someone looking for a starting point. For one, you know immediately what “funk” means when applied to rum. The S&C is a prototype of the highly refined Jamaican style. Smith and Cross has an earthy, root-like quality reminiscent of ginger or ginseng, but the boy opens up to a whole host of additional flavors with this medicinal arrival.

Borrough died in 1897 and the distillery passed to his sons, who continued to expand the business and buy new equipment to support their growing customer list. This expansion included not only the physical footprint, but also the expansion to other types of spirits and even the medical alcohol business. The rum already has a slightly tart note, which is only accentuated by adding the lime juice. Adding some simple syrup definitely takes the edge off, but I still found it not quite balanced. One thing is certain, however: the funk is too funky to be completely washed out by the ice. It may not be that strong, but it’s still there.

It was one of those improved gin recipes that Borrough used to create the distillery. For less than thirty dollars you can get a real Navy Proof Rum with 57% vol. I would pay $ 60 to get this quality in a bourbon and around $ 70-100 for a timeless whiskey on the same test. Yes, it is strong, but there are no drawbacks to this test.

In reality, its richness and sweetness seem to hold me back more than the actual test. That being said, I highly recommend Smith and Cross if your into Jamaican style rums. It is a pure molasses-based rum, without coloring or flavoring, just a mixture of a 6-month-old rum and a 3-year-old rum.

This rum is created by the Hampden Estate in Jamaica, which starts with a combination of molasses, cane juice and sugar syrup. This sugary substance is fermented to create a slightly alcoholic blend, which is then distilled in a traditional still to make the new rum. Let’s start with this, whoever said he was drinking is just a lying ship sack. I like fat rums, which is why I’m a huge meerrum fan.

The bottle is closed with a wooden and cork stopper. This rum is often described as having the properties of a “hogo” rum. The term is derived from the French “skin gout” or “high taste”, which is commonly used to describe strong or desirable properties in foods and beverages. Sometime around 1788, two companies, Smith & Tyers and White Cross, began working together to import sugar and rum from the London docks. The company eventually led to the creation of the Smith & Cross brand, which was taken over by Hayman Limited, where it still exists today.

I can pour it into a glass and experience absolute euphoria for an hour just by smelling it on it. They give you a pile of sausages with so much flavor that your mouth will turn red and your brain will even go crazy. Even on the coke, this is a fat rum that will take the coke from you, hit her a few times, get her to wear a dress and call him daddy. So start off, lick an oak barrel, now burn your house down and put out a bunch of smoke, add some Appleton / Pussers mix and that’s what you have. I would rate it 10/10, but it’s so dominant that I can’t call it perfect.

Christopher Hayman had worked for the company since 1969 and saw this as his chance to act independently, buy a stake in the Whitbread brands and start his own business as Hayman Limited. This new venture focused on building a liquor wholesaler business, branding, and sourcing liquor from elsewhere without actually running their own distillery. As someone who drinks a lot of alcohol for that side, I appreciate the ones who are a bit weird.

Of course, the molasses and brown sugar you would expect from a rum of this color. But tobacco and lime also provide even more aromas that are reminiscent of the tropics. There is a sense of place in all of these things and they held nothing back. And everything changes a little when you add water or your giant ice cube starts to melt. Its golden color implies more aging than you might expect – the oldest rum here is three years old and most are much younger. The great tradition of this style is reflected in the famous drink recipes that specifically call for Jamaican rum.
